Englander Transportation, Fleetmaster expand holiday pay, vacation time

Aug. 16, 2021
Sister companies add Veterans Day, Good Friday, and Juneteenth to paid days off; and bolster driver vacation accrual by 40 hours

Sister companies Fleetmaster Express and Englander Transportation recently made “significant improvements” to their benefits package that allow for more flexibility relating to holidays and vacation time for their employees.

Englander, based in Rustburg, Va., specializes in temperature-controlled transportation.

“Fleetmaster and Englander both believe that family comes first,” the companies said. “Helping support the employee’s quality of life and respecting family values is fundamental to both organizations.”

Changes, which were implemented based on driver and office staff feedback, include expanding paid holidays from six to nine, and increasing holiday pay by 50%, the companies said. Newly added holidays are Veterans Day, Good Friday, and Juneteenth.

The new structure takes effect on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Veterans Day is intended to honor the men and women who served in the U.S. armed forces. Good Friday is being added to show respect for personal beliefs, maintained Fleetmaster and Englander, who also say they’ll be among the first trucking companies to add Juneteenth as a paid holiday to support diversity and inclusion.

Fleetmaster and Englander also are changing their accrual timeframe for paid time off, to help drivers get more vacation time sooner, and adding an additional 40 hours to driver vacation accrual.

“Home time and vacation is a No. 1 request from drivers, and making these improvements to their structure is another step in keeping drivers happy,” the companies concluded.
